Don Pfluger

Don thinks of his fellow partners at GALLINA as the captains of teams — whose objectives are to solve clients’ problems, help them address opportunities, and ensure they avoid pitfalls in their businesses.

“Our team is very knowledgeable about our clients’ businesses,” he says. “We understand their companies and their industry, and we know how to select the right tools and strategies to help them with any financial reporting, tax planning, tax reporting, or other business issues they face.”

Don began his career as a staff accountant with GALLINA in 1980, the same year he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from California State University, Chico. “I am one of several partners who started their careers here, which is part of what makes our firm unique,” he says. “This low turnover is also reflected in our staff. This greatly benefits our clients because it ensures they will work with GALLINA professionals who have specialized expertise and experience in the construction industry.”

Accessibility is one of Don’s top priorities. He makes sure that on the rare occasions when he is unable to return a client’s call on the same day, another member of his team is ready and able to do so.

Don works with general building contractors, engineering contractors, specialty subcontractors, and suppliers whose annual volumes range from $100,000 to more than $100 million. He also works with a number of not-for-profit organizations and provides employee benefit plan audits.

By involving himself in the accounting industry, Don stays current on issues affecting his clients. For many years he has served on the California Society of Certified Public Accountants’ (CalCPA) Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards Committee. For many years, he assisted the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) with its revisions to the Industry Audit and Accounting Guide for Construction Contractors (IAAGCC), and the annual Audit Risk Alert for Construction Contractors.

In addition, he was a reviewing author for Practitioners Publishing Company’s (PPC) Guide to Construction Contractors and has been a lecturer at many industry seminars. Don has also been a key player in GALLINA’s drive toward improving technological and auditing efficiencies at the firm.

Don has been active with the Boy Scouts of America for decades. “I started out by getting my own Eagle Scout badge and now I’m involved in helping my sons’ local troops.” He was Treasurer of the Boy Scout’s Golden Empire Council for nine years. He is the father of seven children — and a growing team of grandkids.
