Reed Matthews

Reed has a reputation for technical excellence and exceptional client satisfaction. As a Partner at GALLINA LLP, Reed brings not only professional brilliance, but a proactive approach as he identifies opportunities with his close client relationships. His competence began with an exceptional education at Brigham Young University whose accounting program has been ranked as third or higher in the nation for well over a decade. Reed graduated with a Master’s degree in Taxation from BYU where he was on the Dean’s List. He began his career in 1997 where his talent was quickly recognized and in just three years was promoted to a management position.

The first 11 years of Reed’s career was spent with Big Four accounting firms where he obtained valuable experience working with individuals, family-owned businesses, partnerships, S-corporations, and consolidated corporate groups. Reed was born and raised in Northern California and his love for the area is what brought him back to the Sacramento region to practice one of the things he enjoys doing most – taxation. It was the freedom and resources to further his practice that brought him to GALLINA. At the beginning of 2008, Reed became a Partner at GALLINA after one year of service with the firm.

Reed has in-depth experience providing federal and multi-state tax expertise to various industries including construction, real estate, agriculture, retail, manufacturing, and banking. His specialties encompass a variety of practices including compliance and tax planning, changes in income tax accounting methods, entity structuring, FAS 109, and estate and gift planning. In addition, he provides support on IRS controversies including those that require examinations and appeals. Reed also specializes in complex transaction planning while proving support on both short and long-term projects. He has worked with all size companies from small to large where each client is more than another name, but a close and personal relationship.

As a Certified Public Accountant, Reed enjoys membership in both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA). Beyond his professional life, Reed continues to give back to various organizations including the Boy Scouts of America. He wants to encourage young men to complete the program, and become an Eagle Scout as he did, to allow them to better to serve their community. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and golf along with camping and hiking with his wife and their five children.
